Poisoned Heart

Wrapped up and warped
My mind, a contagion
Of self pitying despair

Tempered by moments of laughter
For it’s hard not to laugh
When all else is lost.

She speaks with a rhythmic intonation
Her words seduce me
Emanating from that face, that mouth
Those soft lips spout such strong harsh words.

The cheeks so sweet and rosy
Yet her eyes filled with a righteous passion
She makes me nostalgic for a far away time

When I used to care,
When I used to want change,
When I was unaware that there was nothing I could do.

Cynicism has sunk its teeth into my heart
And its poison has been pulsing through me
Ever since.
